Making a career shift needs support

Dec 2024 marks the eleventh year since I made a career shift from being an International NGO Accountant with 12 years experience to being the #WomanInTech with a little over a decade in experience in the tech space.

Making the transition from:
1) being and employee,
2) earning a salary,
3) having access to resources supplied by the employer to effectively doing my job,
4) having a defined job description,
5) having certain employee benefits that were guaranteed,
6) having defined working hours, sick leave, annual leave, compassionate leave etc,
7) having someone to report to,
8) working from an office, with already set-out systems, policies and manuals.

To being self-employed:
a) bootstrapping for the growth of my business/brand,
b) no guaranteed income monthly,
c) sourcing my own resources to deliver,
d) juggling multiple roles in the business,
e) mapping the strategic direction of the business/brand,
f) fluid working hours depending on the deliverables,
g) remote working from anywhere where there is power, my device and the internet also depending on where I am working in office or out of office.

The lists are endless. Suffice it to say, it was not an easy road and I am convinced without a shadow of doubt that is I had the support I am offering, I would have achieved some things faster. We launch the LinkedIn group on the 1st of September for people considering a careershift, who have made a careershift and those who want to support both groups in services, mentorship etc.
